ALLSIAM.NET present the best photos from Thailand

Thailand? How to describe this country? A country full of contradictions, beauty, richness and poverty at the same time, nature, food, fruits, heat (and i really mean heat, at least between mid of february and may), dirt, pollution, corruption, drugs, huge shopping malls and many more things... Asia is the most thrilling continent and Thailand is part of it. At least once in a lifetime every westerner should have visited a country in South East Asia (SEA), especially should visit Thailand to experience that there is something else on this planet - yet not necessarily better than our world in the west.

Thailand is the country in Southeast Asia with the most tourists, and for a reason. Exotic, yet quite safe; cheap, yet equipped with every modern amenity you need, there is something for every interest and every wallet, from beach front backpacker bungalows, although they are disappearing and are more and more replaced by all kind of Hotels to some of the best luxury hotels in the world to all . And despite the heavy flow of tourism, Thailand retains its quintessential Thai-ness, with a culture and history all its own and a carefree people famed for their smiles and their fun-seeking "sanook" lifestyle. Many travelers come to Thailand and extend their stay well beyond their original plans and others never find a reason to leave.

This is not to say that Thailand doesn't have its downsides, including the considerable growing pains of an economy where an agricultural laborer is lucky to earn 200 baht per day while the upper class cruise past in their BMW and Porsche, Bangkok, the capital, is notorious for its traffic jams and rampant development has wrecked much of once-beautiful Pattaya and Phuket. In heavily touristed areas, some lowlifes have made scamming tourists into an art form.

We will give you insight to this country by loads of pictures from all destinations, from the north over the north-east, the east, the south west as well as the south east.

Maybe you will be inspired to travel to Thailand, have a vacation in its still beautiful islands, fly to Phuket, Koh Chang, Koh Samui or Koh Phangan.

Below you will find a picture story that changes frequently, below this you will find links to several parts with pictures from all around Thailand.

The sleeping ones: did you notice it? Everywhere you can see Thais sleeping. At home? No, everywhere across the country. Inside, outside, in shops, even the owner of shops can be often seen - sleeping. Thais love to sleep.

If there were a contest who could sleep the easiest and in the most unusual places, I think the Thais would win hands down. In the west, sleeping in public is frowned upon and sleeping on the job can get you fired. In Thailand there is no stigma associated with sleeping in public, and sleeping on the job is not always an offense. Many times I have seen massage therapists take a nap in between clients in the typical Thai massage shops where many floor mats are lined up next to each other in one big room. If a market vendor has no customers, she might also just snooze for a while, and tuk tuk (three wheel mini taxis) drivers are often seen sleeping in the backseat of their vehicles. Nobody in Thailand thinks that this is unusual or unprofessional. Thais have the amazing ability to fall asleep almost anywhere and in the most unusual places. I have seen many people sleep on their (parked) motorcycles, and I have seen a number of co-riders asleep while the bike was in full motion in traffic. Today I went to my local market and saw a father and his son fast asleep on the same moped. Clearly Thais are less stressed out then their western counterparts, and in general they don’t require mountains of sleeping pills just to be able to sleep through the night.
